Is More screen time = More work?

Does more screen time = more work? In many organizations, this is glorified. But, I  used to say to my colleagues and team that more screen time means less or no productivity. Be a smart worker by spending less time in front of the screen.

“He spends x hours a day on calls managing his team”

“I spend the first hour of my day organizing my day”

“The team spends one hour every day on standup, getting updates, and assigning works”

Ever heard of the above preaching? Especially, when someone uses such sentences to glorify his or her productivity. We get you, and we too can’t stand such references. These are times when someone says that he/she has spent more than necessary hours on work, the act of spending more time is associated with hard-work, productivity, and hustling. Heck, the habit of spending more than needed time in front of computers has become a performance indicator of sorts at some workplaces. In short,

spending more time in front of computer = better performer = more productive

But, is it? We at Astravue believe the answer is a straight NO.

We do understand that a team has to be cohesive and each member is a cog in the wheel, but a vehicle moves forward only if each cog works to turn the wheel, and not when the cogs keep on talking to each other. So, why does a team need to spend so much time talking and managing its tasks rather than doing the actual work?

At Astravue, we believe that there has been an overflow of productivity, team, and task management tools, most of them costing a bomb and painstakingly complex to use. All these tools are eating up a team’s time more than required. We have reached a point where we have tools to manage tools, and tools to manage these managerial tools. The stack just keeps growing. Honestly, if we were to summarize the current productivity tools and its makers, below would be the meme.

So we wanted to do something about it.

What are we doing, now?

We’re crafting a lightweight tool in which you have the essential bits to effectively manage your and your team’s tasks, and projects, while making the communication seamless among team members. In short, our platform is a fresh take on managing your daily workflow.

We have certain guidelines that we intend to stick to, and reducing user’s screen time on our platform is one of the important guidelines. This may sound like an oxymoron as any digital platform or app aims to keep the users glued to its platform/app. But, our intention is to make our customers use as minimal time as possible on our platform, and spend more time on their actual work. We want to liberate our users by giving them more time, so that they concentrate more on their work, than managing the work.

Now, how are we going to do it?

Stay tuned for our upcoming beta release which will give a glimpse of what’s our take of a productivity platform and what’s cooking under the hood.
