Stop using emails in workplace and why you should do that?

It is true that email is a professional tool to communicate with clients, to apply for jobs and it is still relevant for marketing activities. However, is it still effective to connect and communicate within your organization?

It is a No. I feel email is ineffective as a lot of them are deferred. By default I tend deprioritize internal emails. In this blog, I will go through why emails should be avoided for internal communication.

Less Productive

On any single day, an employee receives too many emails both internal and external. Inbox is flooded with emails from customers, internal, blogs and newsletter. This makes it virtually impossible for employees to go through every single one of them. Sometimes, they get carried away with less important one and forget to attend to the important ones.

Information is lost

To be more organized, I create folders and in the process end up adding many. Critical emails tend to get land in the folders while I am fixated on the inbox. Sometimes they land in the wrong folder when the filters are not set right. As a result, I have missed many emails which I needed to attend immediately. In my case, the reminders for meetings or calendar invites landed in less important folders and as a result I have missed many important meetings.

Old fashioned

Even with advancements in technology, emails still stay relevant. With mobile technology, I  get push notifications. However, it is not friendly like chat tools. The formal structure doesn’t make it easier unlike chat. It isn’t instant as a result there is always this anxiety. And, this doesn’t help much when you work on critical projects where collaboration is needed.

Emails are still relevant in business. However, it doesn’t deliver the desirable result  when it comes to internal communication.

Personally, I want to replace emails for communication and collaboration(yes, Slack has the same vision). Hence, here at Astravue my team is working to build a tool which improves employee engagement and productivity.
